About the Position:
The Social Media Manager is a mission-critical member of the Marketing and Communications team, responsible for elevating the Americares brand, growing our global social community and advancing awareness of our mission through bold, audience-first storytelling. This is an opportunity for a creative, strategic social media marketer to shape how one of the world’s leading health-focused humanitarian organizations shows up across social media, raising the visibility of our emergency responses, long-term health programs, access to medicine program and community-based health services while engaging new audiences and deepening relationships with existing supporters, partners and advocates.
Working across a dynamic global organization, the Social Media Manager will identify compelling stories, spot timely cultural and social opportunities, and translate complex global health issues into content that inspires engagement and action. They will confidently pitch ideas, proactively organize their work around a draft, review and publish process, collaborate with colleagues across functions and departments, and bring campaigns to life with creativity, and sound judgment.
This role is responsible for developing and executing an integrated social media strategy and editorial calendar across Americares primary social channels, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. The Manager will create compelling content and campaigns that reflect our distinctive brand voice while balancing timely storytelling, organizational priorities and platform best practices as defined by the Director. They will continuously test new content formats, identify emerging trends and use performance insights to refine strategy and maximize impact.
Success in this role requires someone who is equal parts self-starter, storyteller and relationship builder. The Social Media Manager will collaborate closely with their Director by aligning on roles and expectations, and works closely with teams across the organization to uncover stories, amplify organizational priorities and ensure a cohesive brand presence. They will also be an active participant with external creative and social agency partners to produce best-in-class content that expands Americares reach and influence.
About the Candidate:
You’re a curious and detail-oriented storyteller and a proactive doer who thrives on turning complex and nuanced humanitarian program ideas into compelling content. You take initiative – you spot opportunities, pitch ideas and bring them to life with confidence.
You have strong news judgment and understand the responsibility that comes with managing a nonprofit brand. You know how to navigate sensitive topics with care, whether they’re related to politics, public health, disaster response or patient and survivor dignity. You know when to lean in, when to hold back and how to balance speed with thoughtfulness.
You have a journalist’s instinct for uncovering stories. You’re comfortable digging through technical/nuanced information, interviewing subject matter experts and finding the human angle that resonates with broader audiences. More importantly, you know how to translate nuance into clear, engaging content that works across platforms.
You’re equally comfortable thinking about the story and the format. Whether it’s a short-form video, carousel, graphic, photo essay or social campaign, you know how to package content in ways that capture attention and drive engagement. You have a sharp eye for visual quality, strong writing and editing skills and a knack for spotting the details others miss.
You think beyond individual posts. You see patterns, connect ideas across teams and turn one-off moments into larger content series, campaigns and programs. You’re always asking, “What else could this become?” and looking for ways to build something greater than the original brief.
Most importantly, you’re highly organized, eager to align work plans and activities to ensure efficient and timely delivery of your products and know how to operate in a fast-moving environment with competing priorities. You can manage several projects without losing sight of what matters most, and you’re confident raising your hand when priorities need clarification or additional support. You bring both creativity and good judgment to the table—and know when to collaborate, escalate or move forward independently.
