We are seeking a Senior IP and Marketing Paralegal to join the Growth and Trust Legal team at DocuSign. In this role, you will be a crucial part of our team of attorneys and legal professionals, contributing to our efforts and delivering essential IP and marketing legal services to our business partners. As a Senior Paralegal, you will collaborate closely with other members of our team, supporting a wide range of tasks related to IP and marketing. Your contributions will be instrumental in safeguarding our valuable IP assets and facilitating the operations of our global E-Commerce and Marketing organization.

 

The core responsibilities for this position include IP and marketing legal program management, specifically in the areas of patent program support, trademark program support, marketing and brand management support and program operations.

 

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Deputy General Counsel – Growth and Trust.

 

Responsibility

  • Take a proactive approach to supporting attorneys by overseeing and managing our IP and marketing legal support programs
  • Coordinate with internal and external counsel and engineers to facilitate the harvesting of ideas
  • Run invention harvesting activities, recording relevant information and dates in the patent management system
  • Orchestrate the preparation and filing of patent applications, and the ongoing prosecution of pending applications
  • Work closely with inside and outside counsel as necessary in support of portfolio management and development activities
  • Administer the patent award program, ensuring quarterly recognition and timely award distribution to inventors
  • Conduct trademark clearance searches using TESS, WIPO, and other trademark resources to conduct clearance searches
  • Analyze search results and draft summaries for trademark counsel using trademark playbooks and templates
  • Respond to internal and external requests for information regarding our trademark use, ownership and/or registration
  • Manage and maintain guideline documents in accordance with marketing legal standards
  • Review marketing content and release forms for compliance with legal guidelines and standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistency and adherence to brand standards
  • Orchestrate enforcement activities to help protect against brand misuse
  • Contribute to the Legal Department’s mission of being a sophisticated user and champion of DocuSign’s products and services
  • Manage and maintain program tools (e.g., IP asset management, brand enforcement), ensuring that all documentation and records are accurate and up to date
  • Lead, develop, and enhance team processes, playbooks and templates to optimize efficiency in our program operations
  • Create and generate reports as necessary and work with internal and external counsel in support of program activities and goals

What you bring

 

Basic

  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience as an IP paralegal in a corporate legal department or law firm specializing in intellectual property
  • Experience with IP law and procedures, including experience with patent and trademark prosecution
  • Experience using patent and trademark databases, such as the USPTO website

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Skilled at handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with different teams and stakeholders

  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships with a variety of internal clients
  • Experience with IP management tools such as MaxVal, and brand enforcement tools such as Tracer (formerly Appdetex)

  • Located in Chicago, IL, San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, or, potentially, in another major U.S. city

 


Wage Transparency

 

Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

 

California: $105,100 – $161,775 base salary

 

Washington and New York (including NYC metro area): $98,800 – $144,550 base salary
