What You Will Do:
As a Product Owner, you support the Product Management team in the creation of product objectives, and roadmaps. You will lead execution teams in bringing compelling, viable solutions to fruition.
 
Work with the PM team to define success criteria and metrics for your product and implement mechanisms to properly measure and inform its in-market performance and future functionality.
 
Optimize the development roadmap and ensure that the plan is reflective of reality. Be resourceful and identify and remove roadblocks to achieve timely product delivery.
 
Collaborate cross-functionally to enable Sonatype to build, sell, market and support products that are focused on solving the highest value (urgent, pervasive and salable) problems in an elegant and innovative fashion.
 
Develop personal expertise in the craft of product management, explore new tools and techniques for work prioritization.
 
A Product Owner oversees the development of products from start to finish to ensure they meet the clients’ needs and expectations. Their main duties include communicating the overall vision of products, leading the delivery strategy, optimizing and managing the product backlog, and deciding which features each product will have according to customer needs.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with prospective users and customers to understand and anticipate their needs and translate them into product requirements.
  • Communicating the vision for the team’s product
  • Contribute to planning and prioritizing a product road map based on product vision and strategy.
  • Managing the product backlog and prioritizing the delivery of features & capabilities based on changing requirements.
  • Overseeing all stages of product creation including design and development, including entry criteria and definition of done
  • Developing user stories
  • Monitoring and evaluating product progress at each stage of the process, including end of sprint demos and acquiring customer feedback.
  • Liaising with the product team and end-users to deliver updates.
  • Participating in Scrum meetings and product sprints
  • Contributing to product demonstrations, technical enablement and training
  • Build effective and trusted relationships and efficiently engage with internal development and design teams.
  • Established field confidence in engagement with customer discovery
  • Partners with engineering on product delivery, scope, time, churn, trends and continuous improvement management, sprint retrospectives
  • Build an awareness of competitive differentiators and nuanced differentiation of similar features.
  • Understanding of importance of usability/UI/UX and total product experience, in addition to raw functionality
  • Stretch Awareness and incorporates internal friction, supportability, maintainability, debt … and architectural improvements.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Good understanding of product management and product ownership practices. Experience working with product marketing, design, engineering and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience working with Data. Tools such as, Looker & Databricks.
  • Data Science background
  • Resourcefulness: figure out how to get stuff done. Don’t let roadblocks or setbacks affect your momentum.
  • Self-motivation: don’t wait to be told to do the above; be willing to try and to fail, also seek out help when you need it.
  • Willingness and proven ability to learn. Interest in and affinity for product management practices.
  • Problem analysis: The ability to figure out what the problem is, if the problem needs to be solved and to suggest viable solutions.
  • Communication: ability to proactively keep the larger team up to date and to raise concerns or impediments without being asked
  • Leading without authority: Can rally a team around a concept or an idea, while being open to input and suggestions from the team
  • Solution Development: Working with a team to bring solutions to fruition and a keen ability to prioritize work based on its value.
  • Attention to detail: Ensure the systems of record accurately reflect reality.
  • Technical: Understand how software solutions are built. Familiarity with the methodologies, processes, and tools that engineering teams use. This will help you both in delivering our products as well as empathizing with our customers.
  • Market Sensing: Understand the needs of the customer.
  • Analytics: Determine what matters most, and how to measure it. Find patterns and dig into the “why” behind the metrics.

What You Bring:

  • 3+ years in roles exposed to the product development lifecycle and modern software development techniques.
  • Affinity for understanding and solving complex problems and experience working with Product Managers. This can include time in internships.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
