About the Role
As the Payroll Team Lead, you will manage employee data, ensure the accuracy of timesheets, and bi-weekly payroll is accurately processed.  You will address employee inquiries and concerns related to payroll. Additionally, you will provide day-to-day support to the accounting team. This role is responsible for processing payroll for 900+ employees, and must have payroll experience within a large organization.

  • Processing timely and accurate payroll
  • Provide information and field employee questions about payroll-related matters promptly
  • Manage electronic timekeeping systems
  • Calculate payable hours, commissions, bonuses, tax withholdings, and deductions
  • Issue paychecks and manage direct deposits
  • Prepare and issue earnings statements
  • Run ad hoc earnings reports for upper management
  • Book recurring payroll-related journal entries
  • Manage and maintain various state and local employer filings, workers comp reporting, audits, etc.
  • Maintain employee records and coordinate with the People team to ensure correct employee data
  • Respond to third-party verification of employment and earnings requests promptly
  • Mentor junior finance team members

What You’ll Need

Who you are and what you bring

  • 5+ years of experience processing payroll for a large organization of 500+ employees is a must
  • ADP Workforce Now experience
  • Experience with general accounting
  • Expert understanding of payroll, deductions, garnishments, and applicable laws and regulations
  • Highly detail-oriented, analytical, and a desire to work with numbers day in and day out
  • Technology proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Google Sheets & Docs, and ADP Workforce Now
  • Experience with state filings
  • Working knowledge of relevant legal regulations
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong prioritization and multitasking skills

What You’ll Need


  • We acknowledge that states have passed legislation promoting pay transparency.  As a national employer, Scorpion has made the decision to post our expected pay rate or pay range (as applicable) in all our job postings, regardless of geographic location.
  • The base salary range is $74,000 (entry-level) – $93,000 (highly experienced), exclusive of fringe benefits. If you are hired at Scorpion, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. Additionally, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the total salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth.
