The consumer growth team is a newly established division within Forbes, created to accelerate and drive our organization’s strategic priorities around audience and consumer subscription products.

As a key member of the team, your primary responsibility will be to grow our newsletter business. We are looking for an experienced candidate who is an expert on newsletters and obsessed with building, growing and cultivating deep relationships with audiences via email.

More importantly, the ideal candidate will have expertise in ESP management and a deep familiarity with the intricacies of newsletter products. This is a highly visible role working with multiple stakeholders across the organization and will be the key point person on email products for Forbes. You will partner with the Editorial, Product, Tech and Business Intelligence teams to help Forbes achieve its ambitious audience and business goals including advertising and subscription. You will oversee one analyst.

Responsibilities

Growth

  • Ideate and execute methods, techniques, and tactics to drive user acquisition and accelerate growth of newsletter subscribers – including onsite conversion, cross promotion of newsletters, paid acquisitions, referral programs, etc.
  • Build target user segments and audience personas for various email products, identify those audiences across Forbes.com, search, social and other channels to drive user acquisitions.
  • Build and implement growth loops such as referral programs and loyalty programs, as well as employ other highly effective growth hacking strategies to accelerate growth.
  • Lead the analysis and development of the newsletter subscriber lifetime value (LTV) calculation, and work towards maximizing that LTV of the newsletter subscriber.

Operations

  • Partner with Editorial and other business units to oversee the growth and operations of 20+ newsletters and email-based products reaching millions of people every day.
  • Plan, manage and improve newsletter operations including the scheduling and deployment of daily, weekly and monthly emails.
  • Collaborate with product and editorial teams to enhance newsletter subscribers’ overall experience, including but not limited to creating new product onboarding flows, creating new templates, fixing bugs, creating new units and sections in the newsletter.
  • Own, manage, support and scale our newsletter ESP platform. Monitor for complain rates, unsubscribe and bounce rates to ensure that there no negative impacts to the ESP domain integrity. Provide and execute best practices to ensure that our emails are delivered to the primary inbox.
  • Build, execute and optimize strategies to expand engagement of newsletter audience including and improving the overall quality and health of the subscriber lists.
  • Participate in setting newsletter KPIs (open rates, click through rates, user retentions, churn, etc.) and deploy actionable strategies in partnership with Editorial and Product to help business achieve these KPIs.
  • Implement continuous testing framework, including A/B and multivariate testing, to enhance and optimize subscriber acquisition and retention as well as other engagement KPIs.
  • Build deeper insights into newsletter audience and products through constant analysis. Partner with BI, Product and Tech to build reporting and analytics around the newsletter business and communicate overall insights and findings to multiple stakeholders.
  • Support membership and other consumer marketing campaigns teams in targeting newsletter subscribers to help achieve business goals, and suggest best practices to audience business heads to improve effectiveness of those campaigns
  • Support advertising and sales team in their efforts to position the newsletters as an ad and sponsorship product. Support the sales team in incorporating sponsorships in newsletters and delivering on campaign responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in digital media publishing, preferably in a newsletter native news or media publication.
  • Robust understanding of the digital media landscape.
  • Deep passion for newsletter and email products.
  • Proven ability in stakeholder management including building relationships across the organization, getting buy-in from stakeholders to drive business outcomes, and responsibly pushing back where necessary.
  • Proven track record of growing subscriber base in an entrepreneurial capacity or in an established digital media brand.
  • Excellent communication, strategy and execution expertise.
  • Data and analytics savvy with strong experience in testing and leveraging sophisticated measurement techniques to drive meaningful decisions.
  • You may come from an engineering, product or audience development background and are aware of the expectations and demands of a high performing newsletter function.

The annual salary range for this role is $135,000 – $145,000.
