We are looking for a passionate engineering manager who has a high bar for the quality of their code as well as a desire to make outstanding games. In this role you will lead fellow engineers and collaborate with technical and non-technical partners to address a wide variety of challenges such as online multiplayer, performance optimization, and console porting. An experienced manager and software engineer who positively influences those around them to be and do better. You must have a strong desire to build and develop the skillset and teamwork of the engineering team through training, collaboration and experienced advice(mentorship?). Formalize processes to allow transparent development of engineers and document everything (gah!, document what exactly? 1on1s, etc). Experience in interviewing and recognizing the right people for the job. Personnel reviews and and active mentorship.

What You’ll Do

  • Setting vision and direction for team growth alongside studio and engineering directors; leading and supervising the hiring processes to support that vision
  • Lead technical onboarding for new hires, including hardware / software setup, technical trial periods, and documentation navigation / upkeep
  • Keep skills sharp by writing code for non-time-critical software components and reviewing milestone / tech initiatives from partner studios
  • Establish and maintain studio best practices around code reviews, positive feedback loops and professional development initiatives
  • Growing other leaders for the team, both people managers and individual contributors
  • Creating and cultivating an environment of continuous learning and development, collaborating with other studio leads to provide practical opportunities to explore new technology
  • Maintain regular 1on1s with the engineering team, leaning on information gathered from standups. EODs and the engineers lead and producer

Required Experience and Skills

  • Excellent programming skills in C/C++/C#, knowledgeable in scripting languages
  • Good understanding of multi-threaded architecture
  • Strong experience building, leading, and growing engineering teams
  • Expert experience with software and game development pipelines
  • Ability to communicate with customers of different technical and non-technical backgrounds to help them navigate the technology and achieve their goals
  • Champion and evangelize team needs and best practices, improvements on behalf of the group
  • Passionate video game enthusiast
  • 10+ Years developing and publishing Console games

Bonus Qualifications

  • Scripting languages (Lua, Perl, Python)
  • Audio experience (Fabric, FMOD, Wwise)
  • Strong engine experience (CryEngine, Unity, Unreal Engine)
  • Working experience in multiplayer gaming
  • Source control experience (GitHub, Perforce, SVN)
  • Familiarity with AI, data manipulation, file systems, networking, streaming
