Reporting to the Associate Director, Employment, the Employment Counsel will be responsible for providing assistance and expertise with a broad range of domestic and at times global employment-related legal matters. The successful candidate for this Employment Counsel position will be an integral part of the Company’s Employment Law team, working on employment matters from the routine to the cutting edge, affecting the entire GOAT Group operation.
In this role, you will:
- Utilize advanced employment law expertise to provide legal advice and counsel on a broad range of employment matters and develop innovative solutions to strategically manage, prevent, and mitigate employment litigation
- Research, develop and implement employment law-related compliance procedures and best practices domestically and globally
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of employment-related documents (e.g., employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, bonus letters, etc.)
- Provide critical counsel to the Company’s People team in the development and implementation of employment policies and best practices
- Advise the Company’s People and Security teams on internal investigations
- Interface with business stakeholders and external third parties to gather information pertaining to complex legal, technical, and/or sensitive employment issues
- Provide training and advice on key employment law issues
- Manage litigation, demands, audits, and investigations
- Collaborate with and advise other members of the Legal team on a variety of employment issues
- Keep informed of employment laws and regulations and ensure that appropriate risk management strategies are in place
- Contribute towards the annual and multi-year strategic planning activities of the Legal team and broader organization
We are looking for:
- Juris doctorate from an accredited top tier law school
- Member in good standing of the California or New York State Bar
- 5+ years of employment law experience at a law firm practicing California and/or New York employment law and federal employment law, including employment counseling
- Openness and ability to expand knowledge base of international employment practices and laws
- Exemplary critical thinking skills that balances legal nuance with business needs and stakeholder priorities
- Aptitude to think strategically, anticipate potential obstacles, and make informed decisions that align with the team’s objectives and the best interests of the business
- Strong curiosity about the business generally and a willingness to tackle a variety of employment matters
- Ability to provide strategic guidance and oversight related to disciplinary actions, employee accommodations, and internal investigations
- Confident negotiator and advocate of the Company and its principles
- Multi-state employment law experience is beneficial
- Must possess the highest level of professionalism, work ethic and integrity with the ability to maintain privileged and confidential information
- Excellent analytical, writing and oral communication skills
