In this role, you’ll create documentation that helps developers build with Twilio products. As a Developer Educator, the documentation you’ll create is part of a larger story that tells customers what and how they can build with Twilio. Developers are at the heart of everything we do at Twilio and as a Developer Educator, you’ll use written content to teach developers how to build amazing things. Your primary responsibility will be to create highly technical documentation that is clear, correct, comprehensive, and easy to use. You’ll work collaboratively with other Developer Educators to create, maintain, and improve our vast product documentation. Because you’ll be writing for developers, you’ll need to have high technical proficiency and be able to test and document APIs, write sample code, and deeply understand the products you’re documenting. You’ll continually work to improve the developer experience for people using our documentation and for your peers creating the documentation: diving into analytics to assess the effectiveness of content, putting together content strategy plans to improve things like information architecture or learning paths,  thinking through how we can improve workflows and processes, and continually looking for ways to grow and improve the work we do as a team. As a Developer Educator, you’ll work closely with peers across the organization and will independently seek out information and take the initiative to form close relationships with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Work collaboratively with other Developer Educators to research, plan, and create developer documentation for feature releases using our docs-as-code platform.
  • Write highly technical developer documentation like tutorials and quickstarts that contain sample code.
  • Compassionately review content plans and draft documentation from other Developer Educators as well as contributions from internal collaborators outside of the Developer Education team.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the docs platform team to ensure the best experience for our customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Scope and execute docs improvement projects such as SEO updates, Information Architecture restructuring, implementing customer feedback, etc.
  • Be an active participant in the team’s Agile processes, including sprint planning, retros, and regular syncs.
  • Contribute to documentation workflow changes that help the team evolve the culture and best practices.
  • Learn about Twilio’s products, and become an advocate for our developers.

Qualifications

Not all applicants will have skills that match a job description exactly. Twilio values diverse experiences in other industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. While having “desired” qualifications make for a strong candidate, we encourage applicants with alternative experiences to also apply. If your career is just starting or hasn’t followed a traditional path, don’t let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!

Required:

    • Experience planning, researching, writing, and maintaining product documentation.
    • Experience documenting APIs and using tools like Postman.

    • Deep empathy for the developer experience and an ability to use that empathy to create a better developer experience in the documentation.
    • Ability to give and receive compassionate, helpful feedback to teammates both on and off your direct team.
    • Experience with workflows and tooling used by engineering, operations, and product teams.
  • You are:
    • Highly organized and able to ruthlessly prioritize numerous issues and projects.
    • Able to succeed in a remote, globally-distributed work environment.
    • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment.
