We’re looking for a full-time Brand Designer to join the growing Design team at Tailscale. You’ll work closely with marketing, product, developer experience, and engineering to define, build and support the Tailscale brand across multiple channels from events, swag, tutorials, diagrams, presentations, our website, social media, and more. Tailscale is a technical product, but ease of use and great user experience are our strongest differentiators. Design plays a critical role in making Tailscale accessible, straightforward, and trustworthy to a wide audience (everyone from hobbyists to seasoned IT professionals).

We’re a fully-remote company and are looking for a creative, strategic thinker who enjoys collaborating with highly technical teams and is comfortable working asynchronously.

Responsibilities

  • Define and improve our brand’s visual vocabulary; help develop and execute a brand strategy.
  • Understand the product and help us tell a coherent, compelling visual story through vibrant, impactful design.
  • Communicate and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Translate complex technological concepts into intuitive visualizations and diagrams.
  • Define and maintain brand guidelines and standardize their use across Tailscale marketing, company materials, and products.
  • Build upon our visual identity and help shape our design system through contributions to our typography, color palette, illustration, and iconography.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to own the process from ideation to delivery of the final product.
  • Communicate openly, supporting and championing innovation and inclusivity.
  • Meet and learn from our users and come up with ways to make their interactions with Tailscale even more delightful.
  • Help define and analyze the effectiveness of brand strategy to identify areas for improvement.

Requirements

  • Experience executing brand design projects from ideation to production and driving consensus among stakeholders of different backgrounds.
  • Desire and ability to learn complex technical subjects and translate them to easy-to-understand visuals for a wide audience.
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent visual and typographic skills.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive design feedback and work independently.
  • Flexibility to adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup.

It is nice if you have:

  • Experience with technical subjects and information architecture.
  • Experience creating visual material for complex SaaS technology solutions at a B2B or enterprise technology company.
  • Experience crafting, maintaining, and standardizing the use of brand guidelines.
  • Front-end development skills.
