The Role

BuzzFeed is seeking a seasoned Newsletter & Messaging Manager to join our Audience Development team and help us revamp our strategy with a focus on loyalty and retention. The ideal candidate will be eager to initiate a fresh approach to newsletters and messaging and be willing to lead an aggressive new strategy toward retention marketing and loyalty. They will possess sharp editorial and marketing acumen along with technical skills that will allow them to execute a campaign and then measure its effectiveness. This role involves managing our newsletter content strategy to ensure our messaging both engages and retains our audience. This is a remote full-time position.

You Will

  • Spearhead the development and execution of a targeted newsletter and messaging strategy that prioritizes user retention and loyalty, aligning closely with BuzzFeed’s broader content and business objectives.
  • Implement cutting-edge retention techniques, including personalized newsletters and notifications, loyalty programs, and segmented messaging campaigns to boost long-term engagement and reduce churn.
  • Oversee all aspects of newsletter production, from ideation to analytics, ensuring content both resonates and serves its intended purpose.
  • Utilize a range of CRM tools and data analytics platforms to monitor, analyze, and report on performance metrics such as customer lifetime value (LTV), engagement rates, and retention trends.
  • Work cross-functionally with the product and data teams to integrate retention insights into newsletter content strategies, ensuring a seamless user experience across all touchpoints.
  • Manage potential full-time strategists or freelance contributors

You Have

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in email marketing, audience development, or a closely related field, with a proven track record in driving successful retention and loyalty programs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and managing newsletters as a tool for customer engagement and retention.
  • In-depth knowledge of CRM systems and email marketing platforms, with strong analytical skills to measure effectiveness and make data-driven decisions.
  • Strategic and creative problem-solving abilities, with a focus on optimizing customer journeys and enhancing user engagement.
  • An enthusiasm about experimentation and a comfort with testing creative strategies that may not always succeed but that you’ll always learn from.
  • An understanding of the BuzzFeed style and voice, and the role it plays in our relationship with our audience.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in building and leading high-performing teams.
