This position entails the supervision of Varis’ accounting operations. We are in search of an individual to take charge of various critical aspects, including general ledger management and the month-end closing procedure. The responsibilities also encompass direct oversight of SG&A expenses, as well as the management of technical accounting matters such as revenue recognition and equity accounting. Additionally, this role involves contributing to tax compliance efforts, internal controls enhancement, and leadership in executing specialized accounting projects.

The ideal candidate for this role should possess prior experience in accounting within the context of mid-sized companies in the midst of scaling. The primary focus of this role will be on financial closure and in-depth analysis. An independent work approach, characterized by a high level of precision and a commitment to confidentiality, is pivotal for success in this role.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Record and manage all corporate expenses, including the development of internal control processes and documentation to promote a culture of controllership and ownership throughout the company.
  • Lead the month-end close process, streamline the calendar, and enhance efficiency.
  • Ensure the monthly preparation of bank account reconciliations and conduct analyses and reconciliations for general ledger accounts.
  • Provide support for tax compliance and treasury activities.
  • Conduct contract reviews to identify complex accounting issues and document positions.
  • Evaluate new or existing business transactions and processes, document findings, implement necessary changes, and communicate conclusions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage stock-based compensation expenses, reporting, and reconciliation of equity accounts.
  • Assume a leadership role in revenue recognition across various revenue streams.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during audits and coordinate the preparation of audit schedules.
  • Undertake special projects; identify and analyze specific problem areas or cost-reduction opportunities and make recommendations regarding relevant accounting approaches and corrective actions.

What You’ll Need:

  • CPA certification is a mandatory requirement.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields is essential.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in corporate accounting is required, with a recent role that demonstrated autonomy, ownership, and accountability for deliverables, judgment calls, and highly impactful business activities.
  • Previous experience in Public Accounting or technical accounting within a corporate setting is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in both verbal and written communication is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Self-motivated with strong strategic acumen.
  • Proven experience in handling confidential information and sensitive matters with discretion is expected.
At Varis, pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
